Lunching out further afield today. On the way back from a client, Ian suggested stopping at the Bathurst Arms in North Cerney, yet another pub he has already visited! This pretty pink inn built in 1699 sits beside the River Churn in beautiful Cotswold countryside.
Inside the pub we were greeted with a warm welcome by the charming landlady, the décor is enchanting with inglenook fireplace, beamed and panelled bar and flagstone flooring. As we’d turned up just as the pub opened, we had our pick of where to sit but the place soon filled up with customers, some taking advantage of the sunshine by enjoying supping pints at the garden tables outside.
With quite a selection from the menu I couldn’t decide between two of the light bites on offer so decided to have both! The deep fried calamari accompanied by garlic mayonnaise was delicious and I don’t think I was too greedy by having a mozzarella and tomato with pesto salad to eat alongside it although I couldn’t finish the generous serving of calamari.
Ian informed me that as he would have to be cooking for himself that evening he’d order a substantial lunch time meal and not cook at all! That said he opted for the Bathurst burger, a homemade 8oz beef patty on a warm bun with chips, salad, coleslaw and onion rings. Ian managed to devour most of his meal and only left a few chips on his plate, this was only because they had turned cold as we discussed his recent holiday cruising the Caribbean.
With a 2pm appointment in his diary we sadly had to leave and head back to our Cirencester office. I will no doubt be dropping in on the Bathurst Arms one sunny day in the near future.
