Off to Wood Street again for another lunch, there are still lots of venues yet to visit and today we went to ’20 at The Kings’ formerly known as The Kings Arms. This magnificent building opened in the 1830s and has been a focal point of Old Town ever since.
The bar area has very recently been updated, in fact, there was still some impressive tiling work taking place whilst we were there. With grey paint and feature wallpaper, stag print soft furnishings and comfortable seating this all created a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
Still concious that we are nearing the end of January and I have yet to feel the excess Christmas baggage has lessened or that my waist has made an reappearance I looked longingly at the ‘hearty’ food choices available on their lunchtime menu and settled for roast field mushroom flat bread which was stuffed with flat & chestnut mushrooms, red onion & tarragon and a side herb salad with a walnut dressing. My dining companion also worrying about tipping the scales at a weight he’d prefer not to see opted for Spanish omelette with potato & onion and a summer salad, both of these meals were great value for money and very tasty.
The menu also offers good prices for the over 60s, I have quite a long way yet to get the benefit from this offer unlike my dining companion! This shed light on the fact that only 10 minutes into dining service a lot of the tables were taken or reserved and most around us seemed to be having a blast in their retirement with bottles of wine being ordered to our left and right, not that I was envious!
Its an impressive venue that caters for all from weddings and seminars, business lunches, pensioners, not forgetting the local revellers who would, no doubt, by Friday evening be enjoying the bar service and dancing the night away on the mosaic tiled floor beneath our table.
