Are you an employer? Do you have any employees that are EU, EEA or Swiss citizens? If so, the following may be of interest to you.
HMRC have estimated that more than two thirds of EU citizens in the UK are currently here for work.
When the UK finally leaves the EU (whenever that may be!) EU, EEA and Swiss employees and their families may need to apply to the EUSS (EU Settlement Scheme) to continue to live, work and study in the UK after 31 December 2020. This will be the case whether we leave the EU with a deal or not.
The scheme is now open for applications and although you have no obligations to do so, if you have any employees that you think may be affected, you may like to make them aware of what they need to do to remain working in the UK post Brexit.
It may be better to do this sooner rather than later as, although we are talking over a year until employees and their families will be affected, who knows how many applications will be made and how long HMRC will take to process them, given the delays we are already experiencing in HMRC dealing with post.
