Getting the correct accounting software for your business is one of the most important decisions you can make when it comes to reporting your finances and obtaining useful information for future planning.
I have really experienced the power of using the right software for the right business recently. We were called in to assist a client who had been using Sage for many years, but had transitioned to Xero on the advice of another accountant. Xero is great, but was just not right for this client. For example, this client has multiple sales and purchase ledger staff and so was really suffering from the loss of Sage’s ability to finely tailor user access rights – Xero was not as flexible, and so the ability of staff to access certain information was restricted, significantly slowing down their internal processes.
The directors made the decision to transfer back to Sage, and I was asked to help with the transition process. I spoke with the accounting staff and we together came up with a plan to ensure a smooth transfer, with as little disruption as possible. Once this was successfully completed, I was asked to take on the monthly management accounts. With suitable software now in place, the accounting procedures became more streamlined. We are now working on fine-tuning the reporting, to ensure the management accounts are a useful business tool to help the directors make timely decisions, rather than just a monthly procedure to tick a box for the bank!
In the Outsourced Accounts department, we aim to offer a fully bespoke service, providing as much or as little assistance as you require – from a simple review of your VAT return each quarter, to providing a full processing service. This can include processing all of your sales and purchases invoices into your software, setting up your payments to suppliers, and reconciling your bank, right up to providing full monthly management accounts. Our knowledge of all the major accounting software packages means we can help with day-to-day queries, or more complex situations as described above. If you think we can help your business too, then please get in touch.
